NaPoWriMo Post-Mortem: Four Shy

So I just tallied up my total for April. I thought I was doing alright, but it turns out I wrote 26 instead of 30 poems this month. Last year, my first year doing this exercise, I was more green, more vigilant, and I met the quota.

Using the word "tally" and "quota" when referring to the artsy act of crafting poems (I'm only mocking myself, folks, no one else) seems like a contradiction. There's also something masochistic about the process too. Am I setting myself up for failure/disappointment/boredom by doing this? Does it make me more of a "poet" if I write every f-in day, whether I'm inspired or not? Now that April is coming to a close, I can go back to my unstructured ways. And paradoxically, I'll probably turn out some better work. No offence to the readwritepoem folks who helped with their daily prompts or any of the poets who took part in the exercise. I hate to say never, but I probably won't do this again.

Here's #26:

Drive By

How do I know you, he shouted
after rolling down the window
let me see your eyes.
