A Walk to Remember
We gave ourselves ten minutes to get there. She hung her backpack on a hook, and I helped her change into her indoor sandals. Then we walked quietly towards the small group of children sitting on the floor. I gave her a hug and a kiss and left. Through the half-open window I saw her sitting just the way I'd left her. If this sounds surreal, dream-like, that's because it was. First Day of Kindergarten. No drama. No tears. Proud as can be. Both of us.

Oh so wonderful ... it's a bittersweet day isn't it? You are proud of her and yet you know she is growing up and becoming more independent and it makes you a bit sad (at least it did me!). I'm glad you had a great first day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Caroline! A very exciting phase for all of us.
