That Mom
Today's local Mirror newspaper featured a photo of a mom and her son, both of whom were in line with us last Friday at the H1N1 innoculation clinic in Scarborough. That mom, pictured here, was part of our "Group of 40", as I like to call it -- the first 40 or so adults who had lined up outside since 7 am on Friday to hold places for their kids aged 6 months to 5 years or else for other family members part of the "priority" groups. The clinic was opening at 12 pm that day.
Friday was rainy and cold. Hubby stood in line from 7 to 10:40 am then went to work when the Bambina and I took our spot in line. We entertained ourselves by commiserating with the others and by singing Miss Mary Mack and Rain Rain Go Away. I had plenty of snacks, but the child didn't want anything. She is the type to wait until the "situation" is over and dealt with before she can truly relax. I am like that most of the time too.
When we got home (she missed school) my little girl was her normal munchy self, and I did not hesitate to give her an early sampling of Halloween loot.
I know things are running a lot more smoothly this week as far as how the clinics are being organized, and there's even talk of bringing the vaccine to workplaces and schools. How very logical. But I'm glad to say we took care of this early, despite how f'in inconvenient and ludicrous the ordeal was.
